Movies under the open sky: Classics at the A1 Kinoteka summer cinema
This year, we’re spending warm summer evenings on the terrace of the Dom Vojske Srbije, where we can indulge in a true cinematic experience under the open sky! From July 15 to August 31, the A1 Kinoteka summer cinema offers film enthusiasts the chance to enjoy 48 screenings. The lineup includes digitally restored domestic films, contemporary international productions, and five foreign film classics that will be shown on the big screen every Thursday at this magical venue for the most devoted film audience.
The British historical drama “Chariots of Fire,” directed by Hugh Hudson in 1981, will be screened on August 1. This film is based on the true story of two athletes competing in the 1924 Olympic Games. The film won four Oscars, including Best Picture, and has since become an icon of British cinema.
On August 8, the program features the romantic comedy “The Seven Year Itch” (1955), directed by Billy Wilder, starring Marilyn Monroe and Tom Ewell. The film is famous for the iconic scene where a gust of air from the subway lifts Marilyn’s dress, creating one of the most memorable images of the 20th century.
The 1999 thriller “The Talented Mr. Ripley,” directed by Anthony Minghella and starring Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Jude Law, will be screened on August 15. The film explores themes of identity, deception, and moral dilemmas through the story of Tom Ripley, who impersonates a wealthy heir’s friend in Italy.
On August 22, the British film “A Room with a View” (1985) will be shown. The story follows Lucy Honeychurch, a young woman from the upper middle class, as she struggles with her feelings and the social expectations of Edwardian England. The film received eight Oscar nominations, winning three.
On August 29, we return to a beloved classic—”E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.” This iconic 1982 science fiction film directed by Steven Spielberg tells the story of Elliott, a boy who helps a friendly alien return home.
Tickets for the film screenings will be available in advance at the Yugoslav Film Archive in Uzun Mirkova Street or on the day of the screening at the entrance of the Dom Vojske Srbije from 8:00 to 9:00 PM, priced at 300 dinars. As part of the A1 Kinoteka project, tickets for digitally restored films are free and can be collected one hour before the screening at the entrance of the Dom Vojske Srbije. In case of rain, the screening will be held in the Yugoslav Film Archive, in the Makavejev Hall at Uzun Mirkova 1, starting at 9:15 PM.
The A1 Kinoteka summer cinema is organized for the third consecutive year in collaboration with the Yugoslav Film Archive, A1 Serbia, and Dom Vojske. The complete A1 Kinoteka summer cinema program can be downloaded from the Yugoslav Film Archive website or obtained at the ticket office in Uzun Mirkova or Dom Vojske Srbije.
