IKEA opens a new chapter in smart home design
In January 2026, IKEA will launch more than 20 new smart devices designed to work with the Matter standard, the universal solution that makes smart technology in the home easier to connect and use. This marks the most important step IKEA has taken so far to make smart home technology more accessible, easier to use, and affordable for as many people as possible.
After years of research and learning about how smart devices can improve everyday life, IKEA is introducing a product line that is simple to use and tailored to real needs and habits at home. The goal is for smart technology to genuinely simplify daily routines and help make the home a more functional, comfortable, and enjoyable place to live.
The Matter standard ensures that devices from different brands can work seamlessly together, offering greater flexibility when using a variety of platforms and systems. To use Matter-enabled products, all that’s required is a simple hub to connect all smart devices – such as IKEA’s DIRIGERA system.
“Until now, smart home technology has often not been simple or affordable enough for people to truly embrace. By introducing the Matter standard into our products, we are making an important leap: enabling devices from different brands to work together and making the first step toward a smarter home much easier. Our goal is to ensure that the smart home is easy to use and accessible to as many people as possible,” said David Granat, Range Manager at IKEA of Sweden.

IKEA’s new Home smart products offer quality, functional solutions at prices that bring smart technology within reach of more households. With Matter support, these products can be integrated into any smart home system, regardless of brand. A key milestone is that DIRIGERA, IKEA’s smart hub, has now officially become a Matter controller, meaning it can connect and manage devices from different brands using the same standard. This expands connectivity options even further and allows IKEA products to operate in a wider variety of systems and environments.
A New Approach to Sound
Alongside the launch of new smart devices in January, IKEA is also making a move in the world of sound, with the ambition that speakers should receive the same design attention as the rest of the home. Electronic devices are often viewed as purely functional, something that can “disrupt” a space aesthetically. IKEA wants to change that.
Later this year, two new Bluetooth speaker designs will be introduced, created to make high-quality sound a natural part of the home, with looks you won’t want to hide but rather showcase with pride.
- NATTBAD – a retro-style Bluetooth speaker available in yellow, pink, and black. With the look of an old radio and an affordable price, it offers a fun and easy way to enjoy your favourite music at home.
- BLOMPRAKT – a speaker with integrated lighting, combining the functionality of a table lamp with high-quality sound. Launching in October 2026, it creates a dual-purpose device that blends seamlessly into everyday life.

Building on its experience in developing speakers, IKEA has created solutions that fit easily into the home without straining the budget. The new models are designed to be affordable, simple to use, and ready straight out of the box. Pairing multiple speakers is quick and easy, with Spotify Tap functionality, and no technical expertise is required – making them ideal for everyday home use.
“We’ve learned a lot about how to create a high-quality sound experience that’s also simple to use. We understand how people want to bring sound into their homes in ways that create atmosphere and fit naturally into their interiors. This insight continues to guide us as we work to make sound an integrated part of daily life at home. That’s what sets us apart, and it’s the path we’re committed to as we keep developing solutions that make sound accessible, functional, and easy to enjoy,” added David Granat.
Special Collaboration with Tekla Severin
January will also bring a special collaboration with Swedish designer Tekla Severin, known by the name “Teklan”. Famous for her bold use of color, this partnership explores how electronic devices can naturally blend into the home, merging technology with personal style to add more individuality to everyday devices. More information about this collaboration and upcoming launches will be revealed ahead of the January release.
