Craft as a driver of change: IKEA presents the third Edition of the MÄVINN collection
IKEA proudly presents the third edition of the MÄVINN collection, created in collaboration with social enterprises, reaffirming its commitment to craftsmanship and sustainable livelihoods. Since 2012, the company has been dedicated to creating employment opportunities through partnerships with social enterprises in vulnerable regions around the world. The latest MÄVINN collection features 18 handmade pieces, where heritage, traditional skills, and the creativity of local artisans help shape a better everyday life.
Created for Change
Building on the success of its previous editions, the 2025 MÄVINN collection brings together 18 handcrafted products made by artisans from Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Jordan, and Thailand. Each piece celebrates traditional craftsmanship and the innovative use of natural materials, merging cultural heritage with contemporary design.
This collection is much more than home decoration – these are pieces that inspire change. Every basket, rug, and lampshade carries the pride of artisans who, through their work, strive not only for financial independence but also for a brighter future, stronger social roles, and better opportunities for their families.
According to Magnus Nord, Social Entrepreneurship Implementation Leader at IKEA:
“The goal of the MÄVINN collection is to drive positive change for artisans and their communities. Like a pebble creating ripples in water, its impact spreads far beyond what is visible. When you choose one of these pieces, you are investing in someone’s opportunity to build a better future for themselves and their family.”
By purchasing items from the MÄVINN collection, customers support sustainable livelihoods and contribute to building a more inclusive society – while receiving carefully designed products, crafted with heart and carrying unique stories. From centuries-old techniques to thoughtfully selected materials, every detail reflects the skill and care of the people who created them.
Creating with People and Nature
The theme of this year’s collection – setting the table – symbolises the power of gathering. By working with diverse social enterprises, IKEA makes space for more people to take part in co-creation. Every MÄVINN piece embodies two key values: the collaborative spirit of artisans and the natural materials their skilled hands transform into something special.
Collaboration is at the core of the MÄVINN collection – these handcrafted products not only preserve local traditions and knowledge but also allow customers worldwide to connect with authentic stories. Designer Maria Vinka explains:
“I love working on the MÄVINN collections because everything is created in collaboration with talented social enterprises and artisans. They bring their knowledge and skills, and IKEA helps bring that work to customers all over the world. It’s a process of co-creation that constantly evolves and enriches us all.”
Staying true to its roots, the MÄVINN collection continues to prioritize natural and renewable materials such as banana bark, jute, and palm leaves whenever possible. Their raw textures bring warmth and authenticity to interiors, while their durability reflects the resilience of the communities behind them. As Maria adds:
“Natural materials teach us a lot. They change over time, just like the hands that shape them.”
Moving Forward Together
Most of the social enterprises involved in the MÄVINN collection are located in remote rural areas often affected by challenging social and climatic conditions. The path toward a better tomorrow is rarely simple, but IKEA remains committed to walking it together with these communities, no matter the obstacles.
As Magnus concludes:
“For me, MÄVINN is so much more than excellent craftsmanship – it’s a shared journey of empowering artisans and social enterprises to secure a brighter future for the next generations. Every product is a testament to the dedication and talent of the people we work with.”
The MÄVINN collection is already available in IKEA stores and online. As IKEA continues to turn craft into a force for positive change, the next edition of the collection will launch in January 2026.
