BELhospice completes another race at the Belgrade Marathon in support of oncology patients
The first specialized charity organization in Serbia that offers free palliative care services to oncology patients and children suffering from severe and incurable diseases in Belgrade, BELhospice, participated once again in the Belgrade Marathon this year. Under the slogan “Running for #Dignity,” the BELhospice team, along with 650 runners from 20 socially responsible companies and individual runners, managed to secure funds for as many as 1,220 home visits by a multidisciplinary team consisting of doctors, nurses, social workers, psychologists, and physiotherapists, to oncology patients and children diagnosed with incurable diseases in Belgrade.
“For twelve years, we have participated in the Belgrade Marathon to promote a healthy lifestyle and highlight the importance of supporting those who need it most. The palliative care we provide at BELhospice is aimed at improving the lives of those facing severe, incurable illnesses, along with their families. We firmly believe that the right to palliative care is a fundamental human right. Every donation directly contributes to improving the quality of life for our patients, and I want to express my sincere gratitude to all the runners, donors, and sponsors who enabled us to raise the necessary funds this year to continue providing essential support,” said Dr Aleksandra Marjanović, Executive Director of BELhospice.
Since its founding in 2004, BELhospice has provided free palliative care to adult patients with malignant diseases and children with life-limiting illnesses and conditions. With a professional team that includes doctors, nurses, psychologists, and social workers, BELhospice offers comprehensive support to patients, including medical and psychosocial support as well as spiritual care, tailored to the individual needs of each patient and their family. The organization also implements educational programs for healthcare workers and actively works to raise awareness about the importance of palliative care in Serbia.
