Anniversary dedicated to raising awareness about palliative care at the “Jevremovac” botanical garden
BELhospice, the first specialized charitable organization in Serbia to provide completely free palliative care for oncology patients and children with life-limiting illnesses and conditions, marked its 20th anniversary with a celebration at the “Jevremovac” Botanical Garden.
The anniversary celebration was also an opportunity to raise awareness about the necessity of palliative care and the exceptional importance of providing comprehensive, dignified care to people suffering from terminal illnesses. “During 20 years of selfless work, BELhospice has, in line with its key role in developing legislation and educating professionals, both nationally and regionally, become a symbol of the fight for the right to quality palliative care,” said Dr Aleksandra Marjanović, director of BELhospice. She added that this celebration was an opportunity for the organization to thank all friends, partners, and collaborators who have contributed to BELhospice’s ability to offer comprehensive and dignified care to each patient.
BELhospice celebrated its 20th anniversary with an afternoon gathering at the “Jevremovac” Botanical Garden, where they organized a special program for children and adults. The event provided an opportunity for socializing, education, support, and discussions that highlight the importance of palliative care in our society. Additionally, BELhospice symbolically planted a tree in the Botanical Garden, further emphasizing its commitment to the community.
Since its founding in 2004, BELhospice has provided free palliative care to adult patients with malignant diseases and children with life-limiting illnesses and conditions. With the support of a professional team, BELhospice offers comprehensive support to patients, which includes medical and psychosocial support, as well as spiritual care, tailored to the individual needs of each patient and their family. The organization also implements educational programs for healthcare workers and actively works on raising awareness about the importance of palliative care in Serbia.
